Mercator projection used for Canadian
Topographical maps is oriented to the north pole,
rather than the equator. There's less distortion
for northern lands with this projection. Notice that the
Parallels - the lines that will form the top and
bottom of our flat paper map - notice that
they're curved. The Meridians - the lines that
will define the right and left sides of our maps
- they're curved too.
Take a
look at the Grid - the dotted lines. The Grid
starts at the equator and extends to the north
pole.
